A warm welcome to the Major/ Minor Degree Programme!

The new Major/ Minor Degree Programme, which will commence in the 2026/27 winter semester, enables students to combine a major with a minor. It thus imparts skills from various disciplines, empowering students to view problems from multiple perspectives and develop creative solutions – with each student’s programme tailored to their individual choice of subjects. The programme is being accredited in parallel with its launch.

The major provides in-depth knowledge with specialisations in sub-disciplines, whilst the minor offers a solid foundation. Methodological skills for analysing sources and data, as well as future-oriented skills such as project management, foreign language proficiency and digital literacy, equip students to tackle complex challenges.

Collaborative learning, critical engagement with sources, training in ethically reflective practice, and the integration of research and teaching foster flexibility and adaptability. The programme provides an ideal foundation for a wide range of professional and academic careers.

Graduates acquire subject-specific, methodological and social skills that qualify them for a wide range of roles in public institutions, companies and organisations – each shaped by their individual combination of two subjects.

In the face of globalisation, social change and recurring crises, there is a growing need for professionals with an interdisciplinary mindset who can understand and shape complex interrelationships. Combining two disciplines broadens one’s professional horizons and lays the foundation for nuanced perspectives and creative solutions.

Together with the acquisition of so-called ‘future skills’, this strengthens graduates’ ability to take action and adapt, and opens up a wide range of career prospects – for example in project management, consultancy, administration, research, civil society or business development.
